Where to Find Them?
Across all islands, you will find the typical souvenir shops where you can find some keepsakes. In addition, you’ll easily spot small local stores that support regional artisans and producers by selling typical regional products.
These stores are typically open from 9 AM to 6 PM on weekdays, with morning hours on Saturdays, and closed on Sundays. However, during peak season, you will likely find many of these places open even on weekends.
Is VAT Refund Possible?
If you are an international tourist, you can shop in the Azores for more than €50 and benefit from a value-added tax (VAT) refund of around 15% off the sale price. This is valid as long as you leave the Azores within 3 months of the purchase.
If the refund amount on the shopping forms exceeds €75, you may need to present the products at customs before check-in at the airport. Other forms can be refunded directly in cash at refund points, such as at international airports.
