Caldeirão

The main attraction in Corvo is the special Caldeirão, an extinct volcano with a huge crater. Inside it, there is a lake of unique beauty, surrounded by covered in hydrangeas in the summertime.

Trilho do Caldeirão

This circular trail of about 5km is ideal in a sunny day. During this hike you will pass by the lakes and mounts inside the volcano.

Ponta do Marco

Ponta do Marco is a high coastal cliff, being the highest point on the island at about 720 meters high. It is a magnificent viewpoint to enjoy the island’s wild nature.

Cara do Índio is a basalt rock shaped by the erosion like the “face of an Indian”. It is about 4km long for a hike of 1h30.

Fajã of Vila do Corvo

The lava fajã is the only flat area on the island, where Vila do Corvo – the only town – is located. Part of this fajã was formed by pyroclastic deposits, associated with the formation of Caldeirão volcano.

What is the best season for bird watching in São Miguel island?

It all depends on what you want to see. For resident species, the best season is summertime, even if they are here all year round, this is the time of the year we can easier spot them. For migratory birds, the best time is at the end of winter, during the springtime and also at the beginning of autumn.
