Objective

Through a comprehensive analysis of opportunistic data collected by Futurismo Azores Adventures, this study aims to enhance our understanding of the residency and distribution patterns of short-finned pilot whales in the Macaronesia region.

Assess the spatial and temporal distribution of short-finned pilot whales along the southern coast of São Miguel Island, Azores, Portugal.
Create a photographic identification catalog to distinguish individual pilot whales, investigating patterns of site fidelity and potential social associations.
Analyze environmental factors, including ocean depth, slope, and distance from the coast, to determine preferred habitat characteristics.
