Futurismo has earned its place among the world’s elite as a responsible whale watching operator. The prestigious certification bestowed upon us by the WCA signifies our dedication to sustainable tourism, ensuring that we share the beauty of the underwater world with global travelers in an eco-friendly manner. To bear the title of ‘Responsible,’ we adhere to stringent guidelines, meticulously designed to locate, approach, and observe these creatures in their natural habitat with the utmost respect and care.

A global connection for conservation

Spanning the vast oceanic distances that separate nations, our connection with the WCA transcends borders. Since 2014, our marine biologist, Miranda van der Linde, has proudly represented Futurismo in the WCA’s Working Group on Responsible Whale Watching. This role brings together some of the world’s most responsible whale watching companies to elevate the standards of this activity worldwide. As partners, we collaborate on initiatives to share invaluable scientific data, develop new standards for whale watching, and engage tourists in addressing critical issues like fishing net bycatch and entanglement. Our partnership with WCA also keeps us updated through their informative newsletters and private communications.

A voyage through international scientific avenues

At Futurismo, our journey extends far beyond the Azores. We actively participate in international events and congresses, often organized by the WCA, including the illustrious Whale Festival. Each year, our dedicated team embarks on travels to diverse countries, forging connections with esteemed scientists, engaging in discussions with researchers, and standing alongside defenders of these magnificent whales. These global gatherings have provided us with a platform to showcase not only our responsible whale watching initiatives but also our commitment to research, education, and conservation.
