What to Bring & Pro Tips

David Rodrigues | Van Tour in Northern Wonders
  • You don’t need much to enjoy the park and its stunning views. A rain jacket is recommended, as the weather can change quickly. Comfortable shoes are fine, and bring your camera!
  • The best time to visit Ponta da Madrugada is at sunrise, when you can witness one of São Miguel’s most spectacular natural displays. For the best colors, visit on a clear day.
  • If you plan to have a barbecue, remember to bring all the necessary condiments, utensils, and grilling supplies. Locals often bring a tablecloth to cover the rock tables, so be sure to pack one as well. Lastly, double-check that you have everything you require for the fire.
  • Maintaining the area’s cleanliness and preserving its untouched landscape is essential.
  • To avoid a one-hour drive from Ponta Delgada at night and ensure you arrive safely at this beautiful sunrise spot, it’s best to stay nearby. Arrive at least 15 minutes before sunrise to secure parking and a good place in the front row. On sunny days, the viewpoint can get crowded.
