What to Do in the Azores in June
Enjoy the late spring and early summer to explore as many adventures as you like. Whether you’re hiking, taking a boat trip, canyoning, spending a beach afternoon, or chasing waterfalls, the possibilities are almost infinite.
Do Some Island-hopping
In June, the summer crowds begin to appear, although there are many more people in July and August. Most tourists will only go to São Miguel or Terceira islands. This is your chance to explore a little further and visit the other 7 magnificent islands.
With the arrival of good weather, there are more flights and boats between the islands. You can go anywhere you want from São Miguel by plane only and from islands of the same group (western, central, and eastern) by boat.
Flores and Corvo are usually less busy in June, as are the Graciosa and Santa Maria islands. The triangle islands (Faial, Pico, and São Jorge) are also worth a visit.

Local Events in the Azores in June
In June, the biggest festivities are on Terceira island, along with the Sanjoaninas festival. It is a 10-day party with traditional decorations, street animations, a lot of dancing, and good food, all in Angra do Heroísmo. This is something you don’t want to miss if you want to see some local culture and traditions, along with a big party in the open air.
On São Miguel island, there is the annual São João da Vila in Vila Franca do Campo. It is a much smaller festival but with concerts and animations as well. On the north coast of São Miguel, you will find the Cavalhadas de São Pedro on June 29 every year. Men will ride their horses in the city of Ribeira Grande.

The Azores are known for quick-changing weather, so even though in June, you can expect a globally good sunny day, be prepared for rain, wind, and fog. You must bring your waterproof jacket at all times. Quick showers are not uncommon.
