Combined with nearby hotels, restaurants, and other services, the beach is truly a lively place, mostly in the summer months. How to Get to Praia da Vinha da Areia
Praia da Vinha da Areia is easy to reach, as it is located just a short walk from the center of Vila Franca do Campo. If you are staying in this town, you can definitely go on foot. From Ponta Delgada, the drive takes about 25 minutes along the south coast, following well-maintained roads for about 27km. On the highway, you will pass outside of Lagoa and smaller villages like Água de Pau and Água d’Alto.
The best way to go is definitely renting a car or taking a taxi. There are some buses from Ponta Delgada to Vila Franca, but they take much longer to reach the destination (about 1 hour, depending on the stops), and they are not so frequent.

Best Time to Visit
It is possible to swim all year round, although it is safer during the bathing season. The official bathing season is from June to September, when there is lifeguard supervision daily between 11 am and 7 pm.
Summer offers the best conditions, with average sea temperatures between around 22°C, more sunny days, and a lower chance of rough seas. Early mornings and late afternoons are ideal for avoiding crowds, especially during peak summer months when we receive more travelers.

Arrive early if you want a good spot on the sand, particularly in July and August. The beach is popular among tourists and locals, with an average of several hundred visitors per day during the high season.
Praia da Vinha da Areia welcomes everyone as it is fully equipped for visitors with reduced mobility. There, you can find some equipment, such as an amphibious chair for people in a wheelchair to be in the water safely.
